I am a native Celsius speaker living in Fahrenheit land.
Every morning, I ask Siri, “What is the temperature outside?” Siri replies in Fahrenheit, for the benefit of my partner, who was born and raised in the U.S. Then I have to follow up, “What is it in Celsius?”
I work on a global problem but I mostly hear national perspectives.
Every morning, I scan Twitter for the latest hot takes on climate tech. Texas Icepocalypse, Biden’s climate plans, another electric vehicle company making a NASDAQ debut. Most that enter my feed are stories developing in the U.S. And I have to wonder, “So, what is happening in the rest of the world?”
Living and working in the U.S., I often need to go out of my way to see what the rest of the world sees.
I am starting a newsletter. It’s called Celsius Rising. I am using it to collect and reflect on climate tech stories from outside of the U.S., a.k.a., the majority of the world where the Celsius scale is used.
Yes, I am starting a newsletter because I need to diversify my own news feed. And I hope that, by putting what I am learning in public, I may benefit others along the way.
